Tar Heels to play in Independence Bowl

The North Carolina football team has been invited to participate in the Advocare 100 Independence Bowl, scheduled for Dec. 26.

The Tar Heels (7-5, 3-5 ACC) will travel to Shreveport, La. to face Missouri (7-5, 5-4 Big 12) in their fourth bowl appearance in as many years.

UNC won its Music City Bowl match-up with Tennessee last season 30-27 after losing to West Virginia and Pittsburgh in the Meineke Car Care Bowl in 2008 and 2009.

The Tigers will be making their third Independence Bowl appearance and their first since 2005. UNC has not played in the bowl.

Last season, Georgia Tech represented the ACC in the Independence, losing to Air Force 14-7.
