Barbara Rimer, dean of the Gillings School of Global Public Health, has been nominated as the chairwoman of the president’s cancer panel.
The three-person panel monitors the National Cancer Program and reports directly to President Barack Obama.
Members of the panel are expected to serve on the panel for three years.
The panel meets four times a year and the meetings are open to the public.
Rimer has been dean of the school of public health since 2005 and has been on faculty at UNC since 2003.
