The first Irene and Robert Alan Briggaman Distinguished Professorship was awarded to dermatology professor Dr. Nancy Thomas last week.
Thomas, who has been with the University since 1992, is co-leader of the UNC Lineberger Melanoma Program and is listed as one of the 2012 Best Doctors of America. She is currently part of two major studies about melanoma, and focuses on patient care at UNC.
