Andrew Payne, who was arrested last week during protests at a UNC-system Board of Governors meeting to approve tuition hikes, will appear in Orange County District Court on March 12.
Payne made his first appearance in court Monday where he was assigned the later court date. He is charged with second-degree trespassing and resistance.
Payne, an alumnus of N.C. State University and a former Association of Student Governments president, was arrested after trying to return to his reserved seat inside the boardroom.
“I went to use the bathroom and to get some water and had (the Department of Public Safety) kick me out,” he said. “The charges are frivolous.”
Payne said he will plead not guilty to the charges.
