A woman was shot in the head Wednesday while riding in a car heading away from Carrboro on Jones Ferry Road.
Captain Archie Daniel, investigations officer for the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, said the victim is being treated at UNC Hospitals and is in stable condition. Her injuries are not life threatening.
The shooting occurred around 11 a.m. when a small caliber bullet came through the car’s open window and hit the victim, who has not yet been named.
Daniel said the woman and the driver work for a house cleaning service located in Durham and were heading to a job in Orange County when the shooting occurred.
Daniel said deputies spoke to homeowners who live close to where they believe the shot was fired.
He said they have also have spoken with a person of interest, and believe the shooting was accidental.
Daniel said they do not believe the victim was targeted or that people in the area are in any danger.
