Chapel Hill police respond to incident in Southern Village

Chapel Hill police resolved an incident in Southern Village Wednesday afternoon after someone was barricaded in a residence near Highgrove Street.

Walkers, cyclists and motorists were diverted from the scene, and residential units adjacent to the area were evacuated.

Culbreth Middle School also went into a soft lockdown, and parents were asked to pick their students up from school if they normally walk home.

Sgt. Josh Mecimore, spokesman for the Chapel Hill Police Department, said he could not say if there was a danger to the community before the person was barricaded.

But once the person was barricaded, he said there was no danger.

No arrests were made in the case, Mecimore said.
