Board of Governors passes strategic plan

The UNC-system Board of Governors unanimously passed its five-year strategic plan for the system Friday morning.

The plan aims to make North Carolina one of the top 10 most educated states by 2025 and to increase the state’s percentage of bachelor-degree holders to 32 percent by 2018 and 37 percent by 2025.

It also emphasizes making college more accessible for nontraditional students — including veterans and individuals that have some college credit — and improving graduation rates.

Board chairman Peter Hans called the plan “a sustainable path to success” for the system, which has 16 higher education institutions.
