The Board of Trustees approved David Routh as the University’s next vice chancellor for development during their Thursday meeting.
Routh, a UNC alumnus, formerly worked at the U.S. Trust/Bank of America Private Wealth Management in Raleigh.
Chancellor Carol Folt said he has extensive experience in leadership and fundraising.
“David Routh brings to our leadership team a unique combination of fundraising expertise, collaborative leadership, passion and aspiration for Carolina,” she said in a statement.
“He already knows a great deal about our development efforts on campus, and he has deep experience in the private sector that will be invaluable in leading our engagement with alumni and friends. He is the right person to lead University development.”
The permanent vice chancellor position has been vacant since Matt Kupec, former vice chancellor for University advancement, resigned after questions surfaced about his use of University foundation travel funds.
The position has been altered from vice chancellor for University advancement and split into two roles — vice chancellor for development, which Routh will fill, and vice chancellor for strategic communications. The second position is still in the search process.
Julia Sprunt Grumbles has served as interim vice chancellor for University advancement since October of 2012.
Routh will start in his position on Oct. 14.
