UNC announced it received a notice of allegations from the NCAA Friday afternoon in a press release, confirming a report by Inside Carolina.
The NCAA previously reopened its investigation into UNC's athletics department in June 2014, saying sources who previously would not talk to NCAA investigators began to cooperate and offer new information.
UNC has 90 days following the receipt of the notice of allegations to submit its official response.
The University said that it would release a redacted version of the notice, which it described as lengthy, as soon as possible. The University said it would be edited to comply with privacy laws.
