Update, 5:21 p.m., Dec. 28: The 1-year-old struck in the head by a bullet in a shooting on Christmas Day has died, according to a post on a gofundme page created to raise money for the child.

Shaquille Oneill Davis, 22, has been charged with attempted first-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon in connection to the shooting, authorities say. He remains in Orange County Jail under a $650,000 bond. The charges are likely to change following the 1-year-old's death.

A 1-year-old girl was taken to UNC Hospitals after Chapel Hill police responded to a report of a shooting in the 700 block of Trinity Court at 5:43 p.m. on Christmas Day.

Police say shots had been fired from a vehicle leaving the complex.

The 1-year-old girl underwent surgery and remains in critical condition.

Police say the investigation is ongoing and anyone with information about the incident should call 911 or Crime Stoppers at (919) 942-7515.
