Man on the street: Students spend snow day de-stressing

Snowfall early Friday morning gave UNC a day off from class and the normal hustle and bustle of everyday campus life. Staff writer Piper Anderson interviewed students to find out how they spent their snow days.

Travis Broadhurst, sophomore

DTH: What are you doing for the snow day?

TB: I’m studying hard, as much as I can, and then I’ll probably get into a snowball fight later. You can’t really sled in this kind of snow, so snowball fights are also really fun.

DTH: How are you preparing for the inclement weather?

TB: I’m not doing much of anything. I don’t think it will be too terrible. I guess dressing up warmly and as much as possible.

Hannah Slep and Radhika Arora, sophomores

DTH: What are you doing for the snow day?

HS: I plan on making lots of snow angels.

RA: Basically, we’re just making a lot of scenes. We got into a fight and then pretended that Hannah passed out, and then we, like, acted out a scene and were like, “Oh, no, at what cost!” And then we wrote ‘prom’ over there, trying to trick people —

HS: — Yeah, we wrote ‘prom’ in the snow, and we’re gonna go see if anyone responded.

RA: And then, she actually fell down there, so we made another dramatic scene.

HS: I was pretending to fall, but then I actually did. But it was okay, no injuries. So we’re getting a lot of food and watching movies as well.

DTH: How are you preparing for the inclement weather?

HS: We just came from Rams Head Market and kind of stocked up.

RA: We stocked up on Skittles, and I’m wearing six layers.

HS: Oh yeah, lots of layers!

Mia Smith, first-year

DTH: What are you doing for the snow day?

MS: I’m going to update my (Twilight) fanfiction story. I have three chapters to post that my beta has edited for me.

DTH: How are you preparing for the inclement weather?

MS: I went to CVS last night to make sure I had Cap’n Crunch to live off of.

Jana Henson, first-year

DTH: What are you doing for the snow day?

JH: You know, just Netflix and chill with someone who may or may not be my bae. It’s still up in the air, you know.

DTH: How are you preparing for the inclement weather?

JH: I went grocery shopping. I got some mac 'n' cheese so I don’t have to leave my dorm if it gets really bad.

Elliot Shain, sophomore

DTH: What are you doing for the snow day?

ES: Nothing, staying inside. We’re on the crew team, so we were playing snow football.

DTH: How are you preparing for the inclement weather?

ES: Putting on the boots, the jacket.

Harrison Dusek, junior

DTH: What are you doing for the snow day?

HD: I’m probably going to study because I’m really focused on my studies. I’m a great student.

DTH: How are you preparing for the inclement weather?

HD: I’m probably going to go to my fallout shelter and make sure I have all my supplies, so we don’t die or anything like that.

Justin Wynn, sophomore

DTH: What are you doing for the snow day?

JW: I played football on Hooker Field with the crew team. I moved somebody’s room around. And then Netflix and chilling by myself.

DTH: How are you preparing for the inclement weather?

JW: I’m just going to pray — because I don’t have any food — that Lenoir stays open.

Joey Yip, sophomore and Megan Vu, junior

DTH: What are you doing for the snow day?

JY: Just cooking, eating, sleeping, watching a lot of Youtube.

MV: Just cooking and eating and sleeping, and studying a little bit. And we watched a movie —  "The Prince of Egypt."

Maggie Horzempa, first-year

DTH: What are you doing for the snow day?

MH: I went to BSki's, got coffee, hung out with friends, ate and watched Netflix and slept. I also slipped when walking in the snow.
