The Daily Tar Heel

Okay ladies and gents, it’s officially October and hopefully that means that we'll have cooler weather. Cooler weather means cooler clothes and ~layering~ (yay!).

Style is always changing. This fall, toss out all of your leggings and tall brown boots. That’s so 2014.

“I have so many cute fall clothes, but I never wear them because I’m only going to class,” first-year Kathryn Holland said.

Denim

Let’s start looking cute FOR class. Yes, I’m talking about wearing jeans. Denim.

All right, maybe not that kind of denim. However, mom jeans are making a comeback, people. You'll be picking out some high waisted jeans at Goodwill soon. You'll see.

But for now, we want this kind: the “I am a hot, young adult, and I refuse to be a bum,” type of denim.

Overalls are a must-have in your closet. Dress them up or dress them down — either way you will be cute AF.

Try this: Pair some basic overalls with black tights and a cute long-sleeved shirt. Add your favorite booties and you'll look amazing. Depending on the weather, throw on the best jacket you have and own it.

If you don’t have some loose-fitting, worn-out jeans, you are missing out. No, your butt is not being shaped up, but WHO CARES when you can cuddle up and fall asleep in jeans that are this amazing. They’re a great addition to your closet and your body will thank you for them.

Try ‘em out: Pair a plain tee with a cool jacket and your boyfriend fit jeans. It’s a bonus if they’re ripped up. You get to awkwardly smile while your family asks why you paid for pants with holes.

Tights and leggings

If you’re tired of denim already, try out some tights. They're a blessing for our legs when it starts to get cold but you still want to rock a skirt or dress.

Try this: Wear your go-to dress with tights. Don’t forget the booties. This is a comfy and classic combo that will be useful for going on a date, going out with friends or just strolling through the quad. If you dare, put a scarf or sweater with it.

“I think you can really utilize the third piece rule in the fall season, and it brings your outfit together," junior biology major Phong Dinh said. "If it’s cooler, you’ve got some sort of jacket or sweater to keep you warm, and if it’s hot, you can just take that off.”

OKAY. Just because we all know this is THE most comfortable (and basic) look, I’ll give you the leggings and sweater combo. Hang onto the leggings and wear them with pride as you drink your PSL when you read this. We all need that #comfort.
