TO THE EDITOR:
I’m writing because The Daily Tar Heel’s sexist sports coverage has gone far enough.
The UNC women’s basketball team won by one point in the final seconds of a great game against Georgia Tech, and the DTH put a quarter-page article on the back page … underneath a half-page fluff piece about a shortstop on the men’s baseball team and just above a quarter-page analysis of the next day’s men’s basketball game.
Speaking of the men’s basketball team, imagine for a second that it was the men’s basketball team with a narrow victory and a star player like Jamie Cherry: The front page of the DTH would have a half-page article at the least.
This is what readers have to put up with on a supposedly progressive campus 45 years after the passage of Title IX.
Please grow some gonads, which both women and men have, by the way, and challenge the patriarchy as we approach March Madness.
