Many UNC students are currently debating where to live next year as apartment and housing leases are being signed every day. Staff writer Michelle Dixon asked students: what’s the best part of living off campus?
Christine South
Senior linguistics major
“I think my favorite part is having a kitchen. I lived in Ruffin, and the kitchen was terrible and I’m really big on cooking. I saved money on grocery shopping — it’s way cheaper than a meal plan. It gives you independence to decide what you want and when you want to eat it.”
Sarah Marr
Senior nursing major
“I like living off campus because it feels more like a home, it feels more permanent than living in a dorm. A dorm is a very temporary lifestyle.”
Tim Preston
Senior exercise and sports science major
“I like being able to go home at the end of the day and live with people that I specifically like and enjoy relaxing around.”
Zach Robbe
Senior biology major
“I like having my own bathroom and shower, and having a parking spot that I don’t have to pay for.”
Timber Beeninga
Senior economics and global studies majors
“I think it’s like the balance between academic life and home life. That balance is good for emotional and mental health — home being home and school being school.”
