Chapel Hill Transit resumes limited operation

Update 1:07 p.m.: Chapel Hill Transit is resuming limited operations starting at 1:30 p.m. The following routes will now run: CCX, CPX, FCX, HU, J, JFX, NS, NU, S and 420.

The buses will follow usual routes and schedules as long as conditions remain safe.

Chapel Hill Transit plans to run normally on Tuesday.

As Chapel Hill moves into its fifth day of rain due to Hurricane Florence, parts of the town are so badly flooded that Chapel Hill Transit has suspended operations for Monday.

The Town of Chapel Hill urged citizens to drive with caution in a press release Monday morning.

Residents are evacuating from areas that have a high risk of flooding, such as Airport Gardens on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Camelot Village on S. Estes Drive.

The Town also listed other flood-prone areas to be cautious in until further notice:

  • Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard at Umstead Road
  • Eubanks Road
  • Estes Drive between Library Drive and Franklin Street
  • Areas along Fordham Boulevard and U.S. 15-501
  • The Eastgate Shopping Center

This flooding could be an obstacle as students begin to arrive back on campus.
