Tar Heels in the Pros: Tre Boston and other former Tar Heels stand out in NFL Week 6

	Tre Boston returns an interception.

Tre Boston returns an interception.

Though North Carolina football lost to ACC opponent Virginia Tech in heartbreaking fashion Saturday night, that did not dampen the shine of these former UNC athletes who had impressive performances in Week 6 of the NFL.

Mitchell Trubisky

Coming off a bye week, Chicago Bears' quarterback Mitchell Trubisky continued to build off a breakout game two weeks ago with a three-touchdown effort against the Miami Dolphins Sunday. It was a tale of two halves for the second-year player.

In the first half, he had no touchdowns and less than 100 yards passing. But when Chicago came out of the locker room at halftime, Trubisky found that same rhythm and dominance he had against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers two weeks ago.

The former Tar Heel threw three touchdowns in the second half, including a 9-yard pass to Trey Burton and a 12-yard pass to Allen Robinson. The last — a 29-yard pass to Anthony Miller — came with 3:17 left in the fourth quarter. The Bears would eventually drop the game to the Dolphins in overtime, 31-28.

Trubisky finished 22 for 31 with 316 yards passing, three touchdowns and one interception. He also ran for 47 yards on eight carries. Trubisky and Chicago will return home to face the New England Patriots at Soldier Field on Oct. 21 at 1 p.m.

Eric Ebron

Tight end Eric Ebron also had an impressive performance for the Indianapolis Colts. He hauled in four passes on seven targets for 71 yards and one touchdown in a matchup with the New York Jets.

Ebron was able to get involved in the passing game early. In the first minute of the game he hauled in his first reception for 15 yards. His touchdown reception was a 18-yard catch that cut the Jets' lead to 30-20 with 8:44 left in the third quarter.

The 42-34 loss to the Jets marks back-to-back games with at least 50 receiving yards or more for Ebron. He went for 105 yards and two touchdowns last week against the Patriots.

Zach Brown

Linebacker Zach Brown had a busy day for the Washington Redskins in Sunday afternoon's game against the Carolina Panthers. Brown asserted himself in the game immediately, as he recorded two tackles on the Panthers' first drive.

In total, Brown finished with five solo tackles and one assisted. The Redskins hung on for a 23-17 win to tame the Panthers in Washington, improving to 3-2 on the season. Washington hosts its NFC East rival Dallas Cowboys next Sunday at 4:25 p.m.

Tre Boston

Tre Boston and the Arizona Cardinals traveled to Minnesota to take on the Vikings in the cool October air on Sunday afternoon.

Boston stood out as a notable player in the Arizona secondary. He had two solo tackles and two assisted tackles in the game. Even more noteworthy was his interception on a pass intended for Vikings wide receiver Adam Thielen with 14:25 left in the second quarter. This now gives Boston three interceptions this season.

Despite excellent moments from the Arizona defense, it could not pull out the win against Minnesota. Boston and the Cardinals will have a short week as they turn their attention to a home game against the Denver Broncos on Thursday night.
