Roy Williams and 10 other North Carolina head coaches have signed contract extensions, Bubba Cunningham announced on Wednesday in a release from GoHeels.

Williams, a three-time National Champion and Hall of Fame head coach, has agreed to a new eight-year extension that will keep him at the helm of the UNC men's basketball team through the 2027-2028 season.

“I’m grateful and humbled in the University’s continued faith in my leadership of the basketball program,” Williams said, according to the release. “When I coached at Kansas my contracts with Nike and our media partner were private, and UNC respected and honored that for 15 years. However, times have changed and understanding the environment that college basketball faces now, Chancellor Folt, Bubba (Cunningham) and I agreed the correct and proper thing would be to disclose those terms.”

As a part of the deal, Williams has signed a personal service contract with Nike. His deal also includes compensation from Learfield, UNC's multi-media rightsholder. Women's soccer head coach Anson Dorrance, baseball head coach Mike Fox and women's basketball head coach Sylvia Hatchell have or will have similar service deals with Nike. Football head coach Mack Brown is expected to have a Nike deal as well.

The University also announced it was penning a new 10-year contract with Nike to keep them as the exclusive supplier of footwear and apparel for athletic teams through June 2028.

In 16 years as head coach, Williams has led his alma mater to a 432-128 record, winning three NCAA Championships, the ACC regular-season title eight times. During that stretch, his Tar Heels have had 10 top-10 finishes in the Associated Press poll.

In addition to that, 10 other longtime UNC coaches signed new deals.

Dorrance, Fox, women's lacrosse coach Jenny Levy, women's tennis head coach Brian Kalbas, men's tennis coach Sam Paul and men's soccer head coach Carlos Samoano have all re-signed to extensions that will keep them in Chapel Hill through 2023.

Men's lacrosse head coach Joe Breschi, softball head coach Donna Papa and volleyball head coach Joe Sagula have also been extended through 2023, as each signed their first multi-year contracts at UNC. Wrestling head coach Coleman Scott has also been extended through 2021.

“It’s a pretty remarkable day when you can announce contracts and extensions for 11 head coaches, particularly when you have as accomplished a group as we are fortunate to work with here at Carolina,” Cunningham said in a statement. “These 11 coaches include seven who have won 32 national championships, and are dedicated to winning in the classroom and our community."

When all their experience combined, the head coaches who have penned new contracts add up to 239 years at the helm of UNC programs.
