The Chapel Hill fire department serves the Town of Chapel Hill and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Chapel Hill firefighter Jaime Ernesto Palacios, 53, was arrested by the Chapel Hill Police Department on Tuesday, according to a statement by the Town of Chapel Hill on Thursday.

Palacios was charged with three felony counts of dissemination to minors under the age of 16 years. Following the arrest, Palacios was placed on administrative leave without pay, and the Town initiated an administrative investigation.

"This continues to be an ongoing criminal and personnel matter," according to the statement. "The State Bureau of Investigation is assisting with the criminal investigation, and the Town is cooperating with outside law enforcement agencies to further investigate the criminal matter."

Palacios was taken to Orange County Jail and held on $45,000 bond. He has since posted bail.
