A UNC student from Greensboro has died after being pulled from the water at the Eno River State Park last week.
Karriem "Eric" Ahmad Jenkins Jr., 20, studied psychology and English and comparative literature with a creative writing focus. He was the 2016 valedictorian at the Middle College at N.C. A&T.
Jenkins was swimming with friends on Wednesday, May 15 when he went underwater. He died Thursday, May 16 at Duke Hospital.
Memorial services were held on Tuesday, May 21 at the Perry J. Brown Funeral Home in Greensboro.
