The solar panels near Maple View Farm are an example of the solar energy powered by Duke Energy.

Over 2,000 homes are without power on James Street in Carrboro, Duke Energy corporate communications intern Fletcher Dameron said Thursday afternoon.

A transmission crew is on the scene investigating the cause of the outage, which is currently unknown. The Duke Energy Carolinas control center told Dameron that the crew was testing a breaker and looking at underground lines.

The outage was first reported at 12:40 p.m. The estimated restoration time is 6:30 p.m. according to the Duke Energy outage map.
