Individual arrested for firearm possession in residence hall

UNC Police arrested an on-campus resident for possession of a rifle in Koury Residence Hall on Sunday, according to an Alert Carolina message sent Monday.

The individual was identified as Caleb Axce, a 20-year-old white male, in the arrest report. Axce was arrested at 9:50 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 16. He was released on a written promise to appear in court on Feb. 18.

Someone who saw the weapon on social media sent an anonymous tip to UNC Police, who responded immediately and took the suspect into custody, the Alert Carolina message said.

The suspect is facing felony charges and is currently banned from UNC's campus, the message said.

The message said the investigation is ongoing and there is currently no known threat to campus safety.

"UNC Police would like to thank the person who submitted the anonymous tip,  allowing them to quickly respond, take the individual into custody and  remove the firearm from campus," the message said.
