Four-star quarterback Drake Maye has switched his commitment from Alabama to North Carolina, he announced in a tweet on Friday.
The 2021 prospect said UNC coaches Mack Brown, Phil Longo and Dré Bly "have been tremendous throughout my recruiting process" and expressed his excitement to join the program.
Maye, son of former UNC quarterback Mark Maye and brother to former Tar Heel basketball star Luke Maye, originally committed to the Crimson Tide last July; earlier this week, though, Maye told InsideCarolina that he's been staying in touch with UNC.
"It's home — it's where I've grown up going," the Charlotte product said. "It's North Carolina, so there are a lot of family ties, as everyone knows. Being an in-state quarterback [at UNC], I know that would be a big deal."
With Maye's commitment, UNC has the sixth-best recruiting haul in the nation in 2021, according to 247Sports. Maye, who also held offers from Clemson, Georgia, Michigan, Ohio State and others, is the sixth four-star prospect in his class to commit to UNC.
