With authentic cuisines from the Mediterranean and Middle East, Mediterranean Deli has been serving Chapel Hill residents since 1992. Boasting fresh ingredients and artfully crafted food, our readers say this establishment is home to the best vegetarian and vegan options in the area.
Owner Jamil Kadoura started his food service career at a falafel pita stand in Qalqilya, Palestine. Since then, Kadoura opened and developed Med Deli in the Chapel Hill area with the help of his family.
The restaurant has grown since its inception, with more than 63 menu case items and an accompanying bakery section. Med Deli specializes in healthy gluten-free, organic, vegetarian and vegan items, among a variety of other delicious menu choices.
Healthy options at Med Deli are plentiful. Some of their more popular vegetarian/vegan items include their Greek and Lebanese grape leaves, Mediterranean quinoa, Greek salads, falafel choices and hummus. Med Deli’s extensive menu includes other options, such as grilled pineapple salad and baba ghanouj, that create a plethora of food to choose from.
Supplied primarily by Lindley Mills of North Carolina, Med Deli keeps its bakery ingredients fresh with local and Kosher flour. This bakery helps employees make the desserts found at the restaurant’s counter, featuring classic dishes such as Baklava and a variety of cakes. Med Deli also boasts its establishment of a 100% gluten-free baking facility, where the restaurant can produce its pita bread for gluten free customers.
Additionally, Med Deli now owns an attached market space for their restaurant, where customers can pick up a number of fresh and healthy produce items, spices and other traditional Mediterranean and Middle Eastern foods.
Fresh, local and full of variety, the Chapel Hill community is thrilled to have Med Deli as a restaurant option, especially for those in search of a mouth-watering vegetarian/vegan meal.
