The National Weather Service in Raleigh issued a severe thunderstorm warning on Monday until 4:30 p.m.

The warning was issued at 3:23 p.m., according to an Alert Carolina notification.

A severe thunderstorm warning means conditions are favorable for a strong thunderstorm to produce dangerously large hail or high winds, capable of causing significant damage, the notification said.

The alert also said the University recommends that all students, faculty and staff find shelter indoors, avoid windows and stay alert. If the weather service issues a tornado warning for Chapel Hill and Carrboro, UNC will activate emergency sirens.
