Northwood High School junior wing Drake Powell committed to the North Carolina men’s basketball team, he announced on Twitter Thursday evening. Powell is the first commit in the Tar Heels’ 2024 recruiting class.

The 6-foot-5 slasher is listed as a four-star recruit in the ESPN top 100 and is currently ranked as the No. 4 junior in the state. Last season, he averaged 16.1 points, 6.2 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game while guiding Northwood to a 24-4 record and an undefeated record in its conference.

Powell committed to the Tar Heels after receiving offers from Cincinnati, Florida, Georgia and LSU. When he arrives, he’ll be expected to join a guard rotation that features current first-year guard Seth Trimble and five-star 2023 signee Simeon Wilcher.
