Jennifer S. Conrad will serve as the interim dean of the Kenan-Flagler Business School effective immediately.

Jennifer S. Conrad, a professor of finance at the UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School, was named  interim dean of the business school on Thursday, according to an announcement sent to the school's faculty, staff and students.

Conrad has been at the University for over 35 years and previously served as senior associate dean for academic affairs between 2011 and 2016.

“This is a busy and exciting time at UNC Kenan-Flagler, especially as we hold a groundbreaking ceremony for a new building next week and conclude a successful fundraising campaign later this year,” Chancellor Kevin Guskiewicz and Provost Chris Clemens said in the announcement. “We are grateful to Jennifer for her leadership during this interim period while we launch a search to identify a permanent dean."

Douglas A. Shackelford announced on Friday, Sept. 16 he would step down from the position as dean in an email sent to Kenan-Flagler faculty, staff and students. Shackelford has been serving as dean since 2014 — and Monday, Sept. 19 was his last day in the role.

Shackelford's retirement comes weeks after Angelica Rose Brown, a former UNC Kenan-Flager graduate student, filed a federal lawsuit against the University, three business school professors and the UNC Board of Governors alleging race discrimination.
