A student was assaulted by an unknown individual Wednesday night, according to an Alert Carolina sent at 11:50 p.m.

The student was near Craige Residence Hall — a hall on South Campus commonly lived in by first-year students — on Skipper Bowles Drive when the male assailant tried to pull the individual into the wooded area behind the residence hall and attempted to push the student down, according to the email.

The student fought him off and then called the police, per the alert. The suspect has since been arrested by UNC Police and is currently in custody.
