Two dead after fatal vehicle crash near Raleigh Road, investigation under way

Update 05/03/23, 4:10 p.m.: Lisa Marie Yanez, 50, of Carrboro has been identified as the driver of the vehicle and Vaughn Avery Booker, 40, of Durham has been identified as the passenger, according to the Town of Chapel Hill.

On Tuesday at 9:40 p.m., the Chapel Hill Police and Fire departments responded to a report of a vehicle on fire after a crash in the 600 block of West Barbee Chapel Road near Raleigh Road.

Both the driver and passenger died at the scene after the driver collided with a tree, according to the CHPD's initial investigation.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation and no additional information is available at this time, according to the Town of Chapel Hill.
