Chick Corea to play Memorial Hall Friday, student tickets sold out

We know: Canvas likes to call the folks who play Carolina Performing Arts’ Memorial Hall concerts ‘legendary.’

But it turns out that a whole lot of the ensembles who come through town are truly that — legends of their musical fields.

Friday night’s Chick Corea concert is no different. Corea is a master artist, with a career that spans decades and a style that continues to influence the music world. His most recent disc, “Five Peace Band – Live,” won the 2010 Grammy for best jazz instrumental album.

Corea will perform Friday with parts of that same Five Peace Band in trio formation — bassist Christian McBride and drummer Brian Blade.

Student tickets have been sold out since Sept. 20, but regular seats are still available, the Carolina Performing Arts website states.

Canvas won’t be covering this concert — although we truly wish we could — but we’re excited that the Memorial Hall series is continuing its exciting year with should be another stellar concert.

Go for us — and revel in some swinging jazz on a hot Indian Summer evening.
