In the Studio: Pendergrass continues art work, theses

Peter Pendergrass, a senior art student, is currently involved in an abundance of art projects, balancing work on double honors theses while also participating in self motivated art work on campus. By participating in both performance studies and visual arts, Pendergrass has a wide span of creative outlets.

Pendergrass and his drama group, The Performance Collective, are currently developing “Sterilize,” an one-act play that they will be presenting at Durham’s ArtWalk this Saturday and Sunday. “Sterilize” will address concepts of cleanliness and filth, Pendergrass said.

The Performance Collective, a small drama group assembled in 2007, is hoping to take their performance to the Artery, Chapel Hill’s student run art gallery. Though the group’s performances are rehearsed, “Sterilize” will also be improvisational and site specific. The performance will likely be about thirty minutes to an hour long.

Pendergrass’ theses are also developing. He has begun field research and interviews for both his arts and his communications studies.

Pendergrass mentioned that his featured artwork at Nightlight, a bar in Chapel Hill, was recently taken down. A tarot card art show — made up of work by twenty-three artists, not including himself — went up in its place.

In the Studio is an on-going series highlighting the work of a UNC student artist. See the original story here. Stay tuned to Canvas and the print edition for more on Pendergrass’ developing body of work
