Playmakers managing director to national post

Hannah Grannemann is taking PlayMakers Repertory Company to the big leagues.

Grannemann, managing director of Playmakers Repertory Company, was recently elected to serve as secretary of the League of Resident Theatres.

She has held a spot on the executive committee of LORT in the past, but had yet to hold an office position.

Playmakers prides itself on having been a part of LORT, a nationally recognized theatre service organization, for more than 30 years.

“It is a great honor for PlayMakers to be included among some of the most prestigious and top-ranked theatres across the nation,” said Connie Mahan, director of marketing and communications at PlayMakers.

The company looks forward to Grannemann’s new role and how it helps to solidify Playmakers’ already heavy involvement in the theatre community, Mahan said.

Grannemann said that her position involves working as part of a select group that is dedicated to addressing the concerns of current LORT members as well as shaping the direction of the organization.

“I will be responding to new member inquiries as well as helping new members become a part of the organization,” Grannemann said.

In lieu of an application process, LORT has a committee that nominates various individuals for officer positions. Upon nomination, Grannemann’s peers – other LORT managing directors – then appointed her to the position.

“Any LORT manager can be elected,” said Susie Medak, exiting president of LORT and managing director of Berkeley Repertory Theatre. “I have great faith in Hannah’s ability to do anything she wants to do.”

Granneman said her achievement continues the trend of helping PlayMakers’ national reputation. It also shows how the company continues to emerge as a influential force within the national theatre scene, she said.

“We know it is a great honor for her, but it is also a great honor for us to have her carry our voice to that organization,” Mahan said.
