Tyler, The Creator, Earl Sweatshirt, Domo Genesis & Hodgy Beats: “Look”

Over a typically sinister Odd Future beat, the four best rappers of the controversial group each get a verse to shine with. Tyler, The Creator’s verse is exactly what you’d expect: references to Miley Cyrus and the use of slur words. The best rhymes come from an inspired Domo Genesis and Earl Sweatshirt. Earl’s, in particular, is great with its highly alliterative lyrics and strong flow.

Lauryn Hill: “Consumerism”

Coinciding with her release from jail, Lauryn Hill returns with a wonderfully fast-paced new track “Consumerism.” The lyrics quickly go through many different –ism’s, and Hill is as political as ever. There are no hints of a new album in the future, but “Consumerism” proves she can still compete with any R&B singers working today.

Pusha T & Kendrick Lamar: “Nosetalgia” video

In anticipation of his solo debut studio album My Name Is My Name, Pusha T has released a black-and-white video for his “Nosetalgia” collaboration with Kendrick Lamar. The rappers spit dark rhymes about their cocaine-filled pasts — Pusha’s as a dealer and Kendrick’s with his father. The song is eerie and minimalist and Kendrick continues his ride atop the rap game.

Best Coast: “This Lonely Morning”

Best Coast has released “This Lonely Morning,” a catchy track off its forthcoming Fade Away. Fans of the band will enjoy the song which doesn’t differentiate too much from their beachy sound. Best Coast shows some hard rock influences here and the song is a pleasant three minutes.

Cults: “High Road” video

The black-and-white video for “High Road” off of Cults’ sophomore effort Static is straight out of a James Bond film. Both track and video are fantastic and foreshadow great things for the new album. Owing to an apparently rough touring period, Cults is darker, but it has not lost the ability to craft catchy pop songs.

Haim: “Edge”

Still buzzing from the release of their debut album Days Are Gone, Haim have released a track previously only available on the UK deluxe edition of the release. “Edge” was co-written with Twin Shadow, and the ‘80s nature of the track certainly comes from him. It’s another solid, exciting and poppy song from one of this year’s hottest bands.
