If you don't want to read about love before 11 a.m. (which I usually don't) skip this

My boyfriend and I formally met in New York City last summer. But the first time we interacted was in English 105 three years ago.

He asked me what happened to me when I hobbled into class wearing an orthopedic shoe, but after his "that sucks" response, we didn't speak again for years. Not even when we were next door neighbors the year after.

We exchanged some work emails last year when he was the advertising manager of The Daily Tar Heel and I was forced to schedule tweets for him as social media manager, but we weren't friendly.

It wasn't until last summer when we were just two people in a city of 8.4 million people that we met and really connected. Then disconnected when he went to Norway for a semester, sort of. But we're back.

Now, you don't wait for a whirlwind journey up North to reach out to the cute boy who asks about your foot injury. There's a Facebook group for UNC missed connections, where you can reach out to those unicorns you always see but don't actually know. Or write a love letter to Hummus Cafe.

QUICK HITS

  • Hundreds of students and faculty members walked out of class today in protest of Margaret Spellings' first day as UNC-system president.
  • The field next to McIver Residence Hall keeps flooding. It's because it has a pipe beneath it that is older than jokes about Leonardo DiCaprio. They're working on fixing it.
  • Candidates for the Orange County Board of Commissioners discussed their goals at a forum Tuesday. It's hard to make jokes about politics, unless we're talking about (candidate name redacted for objectivity).

IN UNC-SYSTEM NEWS

We made an interactive graphic to highlight the differences between the past two UNC-system presidents, Tom Ross and Margaret Spellings. Don't tell me that all digital desk does is, like, make lists of places to study outside and playlists about whatever mood we're in. But we did that too.

IN TOWN NEWS

Former UNC student Chandler Kania will face second-degree murder charges after authorities say he drove drunk, hit another car and killed three people. That particular charge requires the state to prove there was an intentional killing committed with malice. More to come Tuesday when Kania appears in court.

IN ARTS NEWS

Story House Media is making a documentary about the Clef Hangers — UNC's second-most overexposed student group after The Daily Tar Heel.

IN OUR OPINION

Parties should be earlier. They should start at 7 p.m. or 8 p.m. and end at midnight. Take a stand for your health and get to bed early on the weekend with a full but responsibly timed dose of social interaction!
