DTH at a Glance: Comma sail away with me

Happy Thursday, everyone!

That intro has an example of a properly-used comma in it — something that we, as journalists and adherents to AP style, should know something about. Today we're publishing two viewpoints arguing for and against the Oxford comma. As a journalist, I try not to take a stance on what we publish, so I won't. But the rest of this newsletter should let you know how I feel on this matter: the correct way.

QUICK HITS

  • Through a boycott, a sit-in and multiple protests, demonstrators at Silent Sam have been threatened.
  • Get ready to party like it's seven, ten or seventeen years ago — WXYC's 2000s dance is Friday. (Yes, all of those year ranges were in the 2000s. I feel very old.)
  • “Because of a few merit scholarships I received, we are actually paying more for my son to go to preschool than we are paying for me to go to law school." Childcare can be more of a burden than tuition for some parents.

ROCKS AND JOCKS

  • You could find them anywhere: in front of Town Hall, behind the Chapel Hill Public Library and along Franklin Street. Painted rocks are taking over Chapel Hill, and we found out why.
  • We’ll get our rest, we’ll work on some set pieces offensively and defensively, and we’ll come out here and hopefully get a win on Friday night.” Sophomore Cam Lindley has had a massive impact from midfield for UNC soccer this year, and he doesn't plan on letting up any time soon.
  • Speaking of massive impacts, UNC alums in the NFL have had a pretty good year so far. Here's what to expect from them in Week 4.

UNIVERSIDAD

  • Que Rico, UNC's only Latin dance team, has a busy couple of weeks ahead: they'll perform at NCCU, UNC and Old Dominion University in the next month and a half.
  • Here's what UNC students think about the NFL protest.
