NCAA NEWS

After seven years, UNC finally received a ruling from the NCAA for its "paper classes." The verdict? No punishments, as the classes did not violate NCAA rules. Read reactions and reflections here:

• “We’re not proud of the behavior but we didn’t think it violated a bylaw.” With the crumbling of the seven-year behemoth that was the scandal, UNC and the NCAA are left picking through the rubble.
• And as the University looks to the future, athletes and coaches are reflecting on how the scandal affected them.
• According to columnist Alexander Peeples, UNC didn't win on Friday — nobody did. 
• The Faculty Council met on Friday, and discussed the NCAA ruling there. Also discussed: The Campaign for Carolina, a DACA resolution and new provost Bob Blouin’s plan for the future.

• “We’ve got to find a way to get over the hump,” Head Coach Larry Fedora said. UNC football suffered its sixth loss of the season on Saturday in a 20-14 matchup against Virginia. But there was one bright spot for the weary team.
• The UNC baseball team balanced competition with fun in its Fall World Series over the weekend.
• UNC’s volleyball team claimed two victories over the weekend against Virginia Tech and Virginia — and in the process, they set a new record for the largest crowd in NCAA volleyball history.
• With the help of first-year Ava Bergner, the women’s golf team earned its highest finish in the Tar Heel Invitational since 2012.

• There’s a good chance that NC will gain another seat in the House of Representatives soon. This has several implications, both in the state and out of it.
• “I felt like everything was out of control. And I thought, 'I can control my hair.'" Seth Pyle took a deep dive into the world of student haircuts to find out why UNC students are shaving costs.
• “It’s a wonderful thing to have data to support what many of us in the arts and cultural field know intuitively is true.” According to a report last week, the nonprofit arts and culture sector in Orange County is a $130.3 million industry.
