DTH at a Glance: Hip-hop, honey bees and a hero

Good morning, UNC! It’s T-minus two days until break, so hang in there. Whenever you find the time between your mad dash to buy the Scantron you forgot and the naps you’re taking in the library, read this for today’s update:

IN MEMORY OF WOODY DURHAM

N.C. athletics radio commentator Woody Durham died Wednesday morning at 76 years old, leaving behind a 40-year legacy of passionate fandom. Check out our coverage of Durham below:

QUICK LOCAL HITS

  • “Even in progressive Chapel Hill and Carrboro, it wasn’t smooth and some very hurtful things happened.” The Brown v. Board of Education Supreme Court decision was made in 1954, but desegregation wasn’t complete in Chapel Hill schools until 1966.
  • Former Chapel Hill Mayor Mark Kleinschmidt has entered the race for clerk of superior court against incumbent candidate James Stanford, who has run unopposed since 2001.

GETTING ARTSY

  • It’s time to hip-hop your way to the CUAB Jubilee: Waka Flocka, DJ Luke Nasty, and Hollywood Cold will be rapping and entertaining in Chapel Hill on April 7th.
  • We sat down with Paige Embry to talk about her new book, “Our Native Bees: North America’s Endangered Pollinators and the Fight to Save Them," ahead of her appearance at Flyleaf Books this Saturday.
  • Are you reading this on your phone before you’ve even gotten out of bed? A recent study found that those who spent more time online were less adept to manage conflict and assert their needs in personal relationships. (That being said, we hope you have a nice day!)
