DTH at a Glance: All about the students

We have a lot of stories pertaining to members of the UNC student body for you today. Check them out below:

QUICK HITS

  • Thirty-eight percent of UNC’s transfer students this year came from community colleges — and UNC isn't the only school seeing this trend, despite some difficulties transferring credits.
  • Not only did UNC softball sophomore Brittany Pickett pitch seventeen innings over the past three days for a North Carolina series win over rival N.C. State — she went 2-3 at the plate on Monday night.
  • VIEWPOINTS: What data is okay for social networks to use? What role should the government have in regulating this? Here’s what two members of our editorial board think about Facebook sharing users’ data.
  • This week, UNC groups ranging from the Department of Religious Studies to UNC Undocumented Students are hosting DACA Week to remind UNC’s faculty and students about immigration justice issues and intersectionality.

LOCAL NEWS

  • EnergyWise, Duke Energy’s new volunteer-based energy-saving project, has over 170,000 users. Now, it’s expanding its efforts into the Chapel Hill area
  • On March 28, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Winston Crisp announced the creation of a task force to address student mental health. We talked to him about the aims and origin of the group.
  • Health inspections include a variety of stages that make restaurants susceptible to minor offenses that can drastically affect their score — but this isn’t a problem for restaurants in Orange County, where no restaurant has a grade below an A.
