DTH at a Glance: Church Humor

Good Morning and Happy Friday/Last Day of SS1 Finals!

When I was a youth, I had to give a speech for my church confirmation. It had to be 3.5 pages long and be about the Holy Spirit.

Being the natural comedian I was, and with help from my dad, I decided to open with this joke: What do the Holy Spirit, love and electricity have in common? No one knows how they work.

It killed.

Church humor can be risky because everyone interprets things differently. UNC researchers decided to delve into this spiritual individualism by figuring out what people think God looks like.

Weirdly enough ... apparently people think God is like an average 30-something white guy. Honestly, I am hoping for more of a Dumbledore vibe.

The Rundown

  • A North Carolina resident has submitted a legal demand to get rainbow pride flags removed from government buildings. The resident believes these symbols show government preference.

A Deep Dive

In the spirit of research and scholarly ways, we're putting the spotlight on some of the work our researchers have down over the past year.

A look into New York stop-and-frisk data by UNC researchers showed that tall, black men face greater stereotyping. Read our Q&A with the researcher himself where he explains that taller isn't always better.

Nature is known for its ability to adapt. A UNC Ph.d student studied a coral species that has grown to flourish in harsh environments caused by climate change.

We don't often talk about menopausal depression as college students, but these UNC professors did. Their research theorizes using hormone therapy to decrease risks.

Plan Your Weekend

Oopsie Daisy. It seems yesterday our Plan Your Weekend guide had a glitch. Well, we fixed that up, and now you can take a look and have a fun-filled weekend in the Triangle.
