DTH at a Glance: Friday Spyday

For my best friend Maddy's 20th birthday, we went to Washington D.C. to do two things: eat too much Shake Shack and visit every museum we could in a two-day period.

One reason Maddy and I get along so well is because we’re insanely competitive and don’t have a firm grasp on when to let things go when we’re excited about them. Which is exactly why the fact that the International Spy Museum is geared completely toward children didn’t stop us from shoving an alarming amount of them out of the way to ~complete our spy mission~.

We were met with so many reproachful looks by parents that day. I always acted like I had a reason to be that aggressive, or like there was some sort of explanation for our behavior.

I didn’t have one, but the people below did. Check out those stories to get you through your Friday.

People with explaining to do

Larry Fedora. Despite 13 players were suspended for at least one game for selling team-issued shoes, Fedora came into his media day with lots of optimism for his team. Read more about what he sees for the season here.

The Library. The bar on Franklin, not Davis. This summer, the bar asked for $25 and a copy of your W-2 form to become a member, and some residents found the policy to be discriminatory. Looking for a fresh start, they’ve now gotten rid of the W-2 requirement and made the member fee $2, but are still seeking forgiveness from some locals.

Chancellor Folt held a conference call with reporters yesterday to discuss University safety, preparation for future events and the investigation for the protest that occurred on Monday.

One great read

Beyond the removal of Silent Sam from campus on Monday, the history of slavery is still prevalent among many universities across the country, namely Carolina. Senior writer Alex Zietlow explores how some of that history remains, and why some believe that it should, here

Things to do

Read an opinion on Silent Sam that you may not have heard in the past few days.

My mind is almost 19, and I still feel angry.
