Women's soccer leads Miami 3-0 at halftime

The first half of North Carolina women’s soccer team’s match against Miami ended in a 3-0 Tar Heel lead.

UNC started the match slowly with only one shot in 12 minutes, due in part to a defensive formation. The Tar Heels began the game with a 3-5-2 system, but after the weak start, UNC coach Anson Dorrance reverted back to the 3-4-3 formation that fits UNC’s comfort.

After the change, the Tar Heels had a strong offensive half. Kealia Ohai and Amber Brooks found the back of the net in the 18th and 29th minute, respectively, to put UNC up 2-0.

The Canes had only one shot the entire first half, which came with eight minutes remaining in the half and ricocheted off the goalpost. The Tar Heels replied to the close call with a shot lofted over the gloves of Miami’s keeper, and a few minutes later Courtney Jones tacked on UNC’s third goal of the game.
