Halftime Update: UNC men's soccer team up 2-0 against Campbell

The North Carolina men’s soccer team scored two goals in the first half against Campbell University Tuesday night.

Though it took the Tar Heels time to get warmed up, they fell into the possession-control habit they have developed and had success with throughout this season. In the eighteenth minute, freshman midfielder Danny Garcia slotted a pass to junior forward Andy Craven. Craven drove by two Campbell defenders left of the goal, sent the ball past keeper junior Ethan Hall and hit the bottom-right corner of the net for the UNC goal.

After the first shot, North Carolina began to take progressively more and more control of the game. Between 31:13 and 32:15, the Tar Heels took four shots as they maintained aggressive offensive control of the ball through much of the rest of the half.

Just before the 37-minute mark, seniors Jordan Gafa and Cameron Brown sent the ball to senior Martin Murphy, who had come off the bench just before the 34th minute. Murphy headed the ball over Hall to give North Carolina the two-point lead.

Senior keeper Scott Goodwin recorded one save in the half as the UNC defense worked to allow only three shots by the Camels.
