UNC gymnastics falls to George Washington

In its first meet after a confidence-boosting win against top-ranked rival Maryland last week, the North Carolina gymnastics team came in second by a slim margin Monday night.

With a score of 193.275, the Tar Heels fell to George Washington, which scored 194.675, for the second time this season, but managed to defeat William and Mary, which ended the meet with a score of 191.925.

Despite posting a score that was nearly a point lower than GW in the first rotation, the Tar Heels managed to make up some ground in the floor exercises during the second rotation while maintaining a strong lead over William and Mary.

But during its time on the vault and bars, UNC lost some ground and George Washington was able to pad its lead and come out with the win.

After losing to George Washington in their first meet of the season, the Tar Heels dominated the Colonials a week later in Chapel Hill, winning by more than two points.

The Tar Heels also posted a similar victory over William and Mary in that same tournament, giving UNC a 2-0 record against the Tribe following another convincing win on Monday.
