Sometimes good results happen when a group that is used to doing everything together does something apart.
That was exactly the case for the North Carolina track and field team, who faced its first weekend of competition apart as it hosted the Gene Anderson Invitational, traveled to New York for the Armory Collegiate Invitational and journeyed to Winston-Salem for the JDL Invitational.
UNC collected a total of six individual wins or top collegiate spots in its three weekend meets.
Freshman Sarah Howard and Redshirt senior Chris DiLorenzo got the ball rolling at home for North Carolina with wins in both the men’s and women’s shot put event. Howard threw for a season best of 15.54 meters (51 feet) and DiLorenzo had his best performance since returning from ACL surgery with a throw of 17.39 meters, or 57 feet.
“I was pretty happy,” DiLorenzo said about his performance this weekend. “It was really the first time since I came back from my injury that I really tried to push it and really tried to get good throw offs. I had a pretty good series, and I kind of built my way up to get a good throw.”
