UNC women's soccer leads N.C. State 1-0 at half

Through one half of play, the North Carolina women’s soccer team leads N.C. State 1-0 in a cold, drizzly matchup at Fetzer Field.

UNC dominated possession in the half by barely allowing the Wolfpack to get the ball in its offensive end and supplemented that stellar time of possession by peppering the cage with 11 shots.

Crystal Dunn opened up scoring for the game about 20 minutes in by showing off her fancy footwork at the top of the box. As Dunn’s defender fell for her fake, she took a step to the right and hit a low hard strike to the side netting to give UNC the 1-0 lead.

N.C. State goalkeeper Mackenzie Stelljes had blocked consecutive shots before that Dunn strike — including a shot from Dunn herself.

Meanwhile, the Wolfpack didn’t get its first shot off until after the 40th minute.
