Women's soccer leads Syracuse 1-0 at halftime

In the first ever matchup between North Carolina and Syracuse, UNC was able to get on the board with an early goal, and take the 1-0 lead into halftime.

Sophomore Summer Green scored in the ninth minute of the game after UNC earned a free kick. Senior Kealia Ohai tapped it to Green, who dribbled right and fired a shot that bent at the last second into the upper right corner of the goal.

Syracuse didn’t threaten to score much in the first half, as it was unable to muster a single shot against the Tar Heel defense.

UNC also took the majority of the corner kicks in the first half. The Tar Heels earned eight corners to Syracuse’s one.

UNC’s leading scorer Crystal Dunn didn’t start the game, but played 23 minutes in the first half. Dunn will be playing with the United States Women’s national team on Sunday when it takes on Australia, and coach Anson Dorrance chose to limit her minutes so far in the game.
