UNC women's soccer, field hockey learn NCAA Tournament fates

The brackets for the NCAA women's soccer and field hockey championships were announced on Sunday and Monday. Check out where the two North Carolina teams ended up:

Field Hockey

The Tar Heels were given the first overall seed in the tournament of 16. UNC will play the winner of Wednesday's play-in game between Richmond and Liberty in Chapel Hill on Saturday.

UNC is led by leading goal scorers Emma Bozek and Charlotte Craddock, who have 12 goals apiece.

The Tar Heels are looking to bounce back from a first-round defeat in the ACC tournament. The one-seeded Tar Heels lost to sixth-seeded Syracuse 3-2 in overtime.

UNC lost last year in the NCAA Tournament to the eventual champions, Connecticut, in the semifinals. The last UNC field hockey championship came in 2009.

Women's Soccer

The women's soccer team was given a two-seed in the NCAA Tournament. It plays its first game against South Dakota State Friday in Chapel Hill.

The one-seed in UNC's bracket is conference rival Florida State, who the Tar Heels tied when the two teams played in Chapel Hill.

UNC made an improbable run to become regular-season ACC champions, but lost in the first round of the conference tournament 2-0 against Virginia.

This will be the 33rd consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance for the Tar Heels, who are the only team to make the tournament every season since its creation in 1982.
