Wear twins to transfer

The Wear twins, David and Travis, will transfer from North Carolina, according to a report in the Long Beach Press Telegram.The pair were McDonald's All-Americans in high school and were two of the most sought after recruits in college basketball. Each averaged more than 10 minutes per game during their freshman years at UNC.


Gallo: No UNC interest in N.C. State vacancy

On Tuesday, North Carolina State and athletic director Lee Fowler parted ways after serving at the post since Sept. 2000.The search is on in Raleigh for the next AD at N.C. State. But so far, that search has not reached Chapel Hill.


Men's tennis earns pair of road victories

Back-to-back road matches were no problem for No. 18 North Carolina men’s tennis.The Tar Heels won a 4-3 squeaker at Maryland on Friday, then continued north and dominated Boston College 6-1 on Saturday.Against the Terrapins, UNC jumped out to a 1-0 lead after sweeping the three doubles matches, then went up 3-1 after victories by Clay Donato and Jose Hernandez.


Harvey outdueled against Georgia Tech

North Carolina ace Matt Harvey pitched another gem on Friday night against Georgia Tech. But Deck McGuire was just a little better for the Yellow Jackets.Georgia Tech took the opening game of the weekend series 2-1, with McGuire going 6 2/3 innings, striking out nine Tar Heels and allowing one run.


UNC men's lacrosse leads Princeton 10-9

With less than seven minutes to play, the No. 3 North Carolina's men's lacrosse team leads No. 5 Princeton 10-9 at Fetzer Field.After jumping to an early 5-2 lead, UNC pushed the advantage to 7-2 midway through the second quarter on goals from Sean Delaney and Jimmy Dunster. But Princeton scored two goals in less than a minute to cut the margin to three at the break.


UNC-Duke baseball series tied going into Sunday finale

The annual three-game series between North Carolina and Duke is tied 1-1 after the Blue Devils' 15-11 victory Saturday. Sophomore Levi Michael went 3-for-4 with two RBI to lead the Tar Heels, but despite hits from every spot on the roster it wasn't enough for a win.


Texas A&M-Commerce players need to take responsibility

Members of the Texas A&M-Commerce football team are the chief suspects in a mass theft of campus newspapers in Commerce, Texas. According to the East Texan Texas A&M-Commerce’s student newspaper, all campus racks of the paper were emptied between 7 a.m and 8 a.m. on Feb. 25


UNC to go after 2,000th win on Senior Night

Nothing like having something to play for.North Carolina will try to become the second basketball program ever to win 2,000 games tonight in the Smith Center against Miami.Tonight is also Senior Night for Marcus Ginyard, Deon Thompson, Marc Campbell, James Gallagher, Terrence Petree and Thomas Thornton.


Softball team back in action this weekend.

The North Carolina softball team is gunning for another championship this weekend in the Tar Heel Invitational tournament.  The softball team returns to action with a double-header against Fordham and James Madison today, after Wednesday's matchup against UNC-Wilmington was postponed due to inclement weather.


Tar Heels dominate at Navy for first time since 2001

With the series split at 12 games a piece and No. 4 North Carolina (4-0) seeking its first win in Annapolis, Md. since 2001, it seemed almost like the Tar Heels were due to turn the tide.The Tar Heels, who started 3-0 for the third straight year, were in search of their fourth win in a row.They were successful, winning 11-4.


Tar Heels steal season opener

North Carolina baseball coach Mike Fox had won all 11 season openers he had coached while at UNC. Friday against George Washington, he needed some late-game magic out of his squad to get the 6-5 victory. UNC had back-to-back innings with a 2-out score to propel the game to an extra inning and finally to win.


First Pitch dinner rescheduled

The North Carolina baseball team's First Pitch dinner has been rescheduled for Feb. 13 due to anticipated inclement weather this weekend.Originally scheduled for this Saturday, the event traditionally helps kick off baseball season in Chapel Hill.Baseball writer Peter Gammons will still be the dinner's scheduled speaker.


Davis could miss NC State game

Roy Williams said in a news conference Monday that unless the injured ankle of forward Ed Davis makes "significant improvement," Davis will sit out Tuesday night's game at N.C. State. Davis also missed Wednesday's loss against Wake Forest, the third straight defeat for North Carolina.


Women's basketball defeats Maryland, 75-64

It was close, but in the end, Chay Shegog and Italee Lucas proved too much for Maryland.UNC started strong and finished even better - as the Tar Heels took down the Terps, 75-64.At the half, the teams were tied at 33, but Lucas caught fire and led North Carolina with 12 points after the break. Shegog closed out a strong performance with eight points in the second half.


UNC down 18 at half to Clemson

CLEMSON, S.C. – In their first ACC road game, the North Carolina Tar Heels are in major trouble at halftime. They were down 23 midway through the first half and trail 50-32 at halftime to No. 24 Clemson.UNC’s best source of scoring so far has been with guards Dexter Strickland and Larry Drew II driving straight to the bucket. Strickland leads UNC with 8 points.


UNC up 46-29 over Albany at halftime

North Carolina is leading Albany 46-29 at the half. The Tar Heels have held a comfortable margin for most of the game and flirted with a 20-point lead twice, but quickly lost it both times.


Things to watch: UNC faces Albany

The Tar Heels take on Albany tonight in their last non-conference home game of the season. After being picked to finish third in the America East in the preseason, the Great Danes are off to a 4-9 start.
