Shouts and boos are heard in the crowd at the UNC Young Democrats party at the R&R Grill in Chapel Hill. Members of the organization are anxiously awaiting the results of the U.S. Congressional and Senate races.
The polls closed at 7:30pm but the N.C. Senate race was deemed too close to call.
“They called Ohio as soon as they closed but they haven’t called North Carolina — that’s good,” said UNC sophomore and UNC Young Democrats member Travis Crayton.
Despite everyone’s enthusiasm, there was some surprise at how early some winners were projected.
As UNC Young Democrats President Lee Storrow walked in, Vice President Michael Foote said Storrow is still drinking from the Elaine Kool-Aid — an inside joke highlighting Storrow’s optimism for Elaine Marshall’s bid for the U.S. senate seat.
