The days are getting shorter and the nights are getting colder. We’re all going to be spending a lot more time in our rooms. But dorm rooms can be the most inconvenient places in the world when it comes to living. Check out these must-have items to make your room just like home.

1. Cleaning supplies: This is generic, but let’s face it, we college students can be nasty. When you live in a dorm, Clorox and Lysol become your best friends. A single container of Lysol wipes can really come in handy.

2. Desk lamp: At 11:00 p.m. when you’re trying to finish that paper due at 8 in the morning, those overhead fluorescent lights really start to hurt the weary eyes.

3. Wall art: Whether it’s a poster, a flag or decorative wall hangings, wall decorations really cut down on that whole sterile look that the white cinder block walls of dorms tend to wear so well.

4. Paper products: Paper towels, toilet paper, napkins, etc. Stock up! When your soft drink explodes all over your desk, these things really come in handy. Eco-friendly alternatives are washcloths and dish towels.

5. Door wedge: This is good for two reasons. First of all, you can prop open your door and socialize. Secondly, you can stick one of these under that door you can’t lock, and they can keep people out.

6. Odor neutralizer: These come in a variety of size and shapes, from small cylindrical items that sit on your desk, to liquid dispensers that fit conveniently into your electrical socket. They usually last for a considerable amount of time, so your room can smell like a meadow in spring time, regardless of how infrequently your roomate washes his socks.

This is a really brief list, so if you have something you can’t live without in a dorm room, comment below!
