Best of Alpine Bagel

We’ve all had those nights where going to Lenoir or Rams is out of the question. Sometimes the busy student just doesn’t have that kind of time. Where do a lot of us go that’s convenient and serves up a great sandwich on demand…Alpine Bagel of course!

This sandwich shop in the Student Union is an institution here at UNC, and if you haven’t tried it yet, definitely swing by sometime.

Alpine’s is open Monday- Friday 7 A.M. to 1 A.M., Saturday 9 A.M. to 1 A.M., and Sunday 11 A.M. to 1 A.M.

When you do swing by, try out one of these delicious sandwiches that will literally make your mouth water.

Of course, you can always build your own bagel-wich from one of a variety of flavored bagels, cold cuts, and spreads. The people behind the counter can come up with just about any kind of combination that you could imagine. But if you’re looking for something specific…

1. The Triple Club- The Big One. Three pieces of sourdough bread with ham, turkey, cheese, lettuce, tomato, bacon, and a honey dijon mustard that adds an excellent sweet twist. It’s big, but don’t let that stop you. You won’t be sorry.

2. Butch’s Mile High- Turkey, lettuce, bacon, and tomato smothered in a secret sauce. This is a smaller version of the Triple club, and tastes great as a simple lunch if you ask me.

3. The Presidential Pardon- If it comes from the White House, it must be good. This is a great sandwich if you want a unique taste. Turkey, roasted red peppers, lettuce and cucumbers in a special sauce. Excellent for lunch on the run.

4. The New Yorker- The big one, and my personal favorite. Roast beef (bet you thought I’d say Turkey), melted cheese, caramelized onions, and horseradish sauce combine to make a hot, spicy and absolutely hearty meal sandwiched between a hoagie roll. Add lettuce and tomato and you’re good to go.

If you’re watching you’re diet, don’t think that Alpine’s doesn’t have something for you. They offer a variety of fresh salads in plentiful servings, as well as yogurts, fruits, and who doesn’t love fresh squeezed orange juice.

So, seriously, what are you waiting for. I’ve given you the hours, the location, and some of the best things on Alpine Bagel’s menu. Try them out!
